The tomb and memorial of Cardinal Niccolò Fortiguerra (d. 1473), was sculpted by Mino de Fiesole. He was titular cardinal of St. Cecilia's from 1460 until his death. One of the great cardinal warriors, he was the head of the papal troops against Sigismondo Malatesta, who had occupied Romagna and Marches; in 1464, he was given the command of the fleet of the crusade against the Turks with the title of legate.
